Math tutoring custom-fit to your learning process.

Rather than a “top-down” approach delivering material for students to passively absorb, my tutoring focuses on your active processes as a learner constructing knowledge and making meaning of the material for yourself. I seek to learn about your background knowledge and skills to best determine what your current needs are. From there, I work beside you to build and refine conceptual frameworks and problem-solving strategies for you to find success on your own terms.

Besides being a content expert in math and statistics, I am a research-driven learning specialist. I am dedicated to helping you cultivate effective learning strategies along all stages of your journey as a scholar. My goal is not just to address your current questions and concerns, but also to help you master the tools needed to confidently construct the answers for yourself— both now and beyond.

  • During our tutoring sessions, I have two primary goals: First, I want to address your questions and build a deeper conceptual understanding of the material we are discussing. We may discover along the way that there are prior topics that will be beneficial to review, and I’ll keep an eye towards upcoming topics to make sure we’re optimizing your overall learning trajectory and connecting all the dots.

    I’m happy to discuss topics related to your math homework and/or exam prep, and I can also bring in more directive lesson plans and worksheets to further reinforce the learning process. I want you walk out of the session with increased clarity, confidence, and direction on how to proceed next.

    Second, my goal is that, over the course of regular ongoing lessons, we are cultivating your skills as a learner and practitioner of math. This includes discussing overall learning and study strategies, including:

    How to better assess for yourself how deeply you understand the material, and find ways to address your needs;

    The best ways to read, watch, and engage with your textbook, lectures, and other resources;

    Discovering (for those who haven’t yet) and unpacking what it means to master the material in your courses.

    We’ll work together to achieve both short-term and long-term goals, from performing well on an upcoming exam and boosting grades, to overcoming math anxiety and finding joy in the learning process. Often, I’ve found the best way to do both is to focus on learning the material as best you can, and the rest will follow!

  • I am more than happy to tutor a broad range of math and stats courses/topics. I teach algebra through precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, and select advanced topics within undergraduate math. Within statistics, I teach introductory statistics, probability theory, and intermediate and advanced mathematical statistics. Click here to view detailed descriptions of subjects I teach.

    I also have worksheets, videos, and other resources available for several different subjects! Currently, these are only a small sample that will expand over time; I have many more worksheets and exercises that I am in the process of converting to digital resources. Check the “Resources” tab for more info.

    1. As much as is possible, come prepared with your questions identified, materials organized, and goals in mind for what you want to achieve during our time together.

    2. Schedule ongoing sessions. I generally recommend weekly lessons for students. Committing to the same time each week ensures that I will be available for you then, and you know you’ll have that time to address questions that accrue during the week. (That being said, I do not require this for all students, as I know college students in particular often have hectic schedules!)

    3. Plan to study consistently throughout each week, rather than saving it for the last minute. This helps you to keep the material fresh in your mind, keep up with new topics, and gives the flexibility to build in extra time when needed!

Policies

Initial sessions are typically 60-90 minutes, so we get the chance to know each other, and make some meaningful learning progress! We will see the greatest benefit of tutoring through weekly recurring sessions. I know that student schedules can be hectic, so it is up to you whether you want to commit to a regular time or schedule on a week-by-week basis.

I am happy to schedule a brief 10-15 minute phone call or Zoom meeting to discuss whether I’d be a good fit for your tutoring needs.

In-person tutoring is available in the Temecula, CA area (between Temecula, Menifee, and Lake Elsinore).

Virtual tutoring is available through Zoom or your preferred platform!

I accept most standard forms of payment (e.g., cash, check, Venmo/Zelle).

Cancellation Policy

A minimum of 24 hour notice is required for cancellations at no cost, with the exception of unpreventable or unforeseeable circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies, power outages). Lessons cancelled within 24 hours are responsible for the full cost of the session.

Academic Integrity

During tutoring sessions, I will abide by your school’s Academic Integrity and Honesty policies at all times. In particular, work submitted for an assignment must be your own original work, and I will not directly discuss quizzes, exams, or the like.
